Yes, this is the safari package you are looking for. 5 days’ safari to Virunga national park for two remarkable activities; tracking the endangered mountain gorillas – humans’ closest relatives, and hiking to the summit of one of the most active volcanic mountain in the world; Mount Nyiragongo.


In addition to the uniqueness of activities, you will also encounter several other primates, breathtaking landscape; and hospitable natives who will make your experience unforgettable. Comfort and security are guaranteed in these 5 days’ adventure, which starts and ends in Rwanda. Virunga national park is one of the oldest and largest national parks in Africa, with an array of flora and fauna.

Details

Day1: Pickup and transfer to Virunga national park


Let the rolling hills of Rwanda welcome you for this unforgettable 5 days’ adventure in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It will all be happiness and fun as our guide welcomes and briefs you about this amazing 5 days’ adventure. After briefing, you will have a brief city tour to purchase a few missing items, exchanging money into local currency, and also visit the genocide memorial site in Kigali.

Afterwards, you will hit the road on a 5-6 hours’ drive to the Democratic Republic of Congo, with an enroute stopover at the border post for document verification, before making it to your lodge late in the evening for dinner and overnight stay. This drive also gives you a chance to enjoy the beautiful views of the rolling hills, natives waving with smiles and the vast water bodies.

Day 2: Virunga national park; Gorilla trek


At about 6:30 am, you will take your early morning breakfast at the lodge, and then drive to the park headquarters of registration and pre trekking briefing by the experienced park rangers. Mountain gorillas are a unique species of Gorillas living within the ranges of the Virunga Mountains. Tracking might last for roughly 1-6 hours, plus one extra hour for viewing the apes as they play, roam in the jungle and pose for your photos.

Thereafter you will have a break for lunch, before spending the evening relaxing at the lodge. The day ends with dinner and a nap.

Day 3: Ascend Mount Nyiragongo


After a peaceful night; you will enjoy a heavy breakfast meal, followed by a drive to the park headquarters for registration, and then a transfer to Kibati petrol station for briefing and then start of the hike. It takes 5-6 hours to arrive at the summit, decorated by a blazing lava lake.
While at the summit, you will spot the lava lake, beautiful views of the landscape, and other attractions. The night will be spent at the huts of the mountain.

Day 4: Descend Mount Nyiragongo and Lake Kivu


After energy giving a cup of coffee at the face of breathtaking sunrays and rolling hills, you will descend to Kibati petrol station; a 3-4 hours’ hike, while enjoying spectacular views of the landscape, plantations, and forest vegetations, harboring numerous birds, primatesand reptiles as you will spot.

Upon reaching the base, our driver-guide will meet and transfer you to the captivating shorelines of Lake Kivu, where you will enjoy lunch, and relax, while enjoying the cool breeze from the waters and engaging in several activities to the moment of departure to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Departure


You will start this day with a tasty breakfast meal, followed by an optional activity at the lakeshores, before checking out of the lodge for a 3-4 hours’ drive to the airport; but with an enroute stopover at Nyanza palace for some cultural insights into the Rwandan society.
